Newcastle United flashed their promotion credentials again this weekend.

Newcastle United thrashed Ipswich Town 3-0 at St James’s Park this afternoon to stay top of the Championship.
The Magpies’ day got off to a fine start when Ayoze Perez opened the scoring within a minute of kickoff.
It stayed like that for a long time, but Perez completed his brace on 73 minutes and Matt Ritchie put the result beyond doubt shortly after to maintain Newcastle’s red-hot form.

Rafael Benitez’s side remain three points clear of Brighton & Hove Albion and Huddersfield Town in second and third spot respectively.
And club legend Mick Quinn reacted to the win on Twitter.

Newcastle were red-hot favourites to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and 14 games in it certainly appears that way so far.
They have been head and shoulders above the rest so far, scoring 30 goals – four more than Norwich City – and conceding 11 times, two more than Brighton.
But it’s a very long season and the veteran Spanish manager – who won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005 – will stress the risk of caution to his troops incase a degree of complacency creeps into their game.
