Newcastle United lost 3-2 at home to Liverpool on Saturday night.

Newcastle United almost caused a major result in the title race on Saturday night, but eventually lost 3-2 at home to Liverpool.
The Magpies fell behind when Virgil van Dijk was unmarked from a corner, and the Dutchman powered a header past Martin Dubravka for 1-0.
Newcastle hit back through Christian Atsu’s close-range effort, only for Mohamed Salah to score from a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross to put the Reds back in front.
A smart finish from Salomon Rondon looked to be giving Newcastle a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw, especially when Liverpool’s star man Salah was stretchered off.
However, Liverpool yet again found the killer touch, with Divock Origi flicking home a header to make it 3-2 and secure all three points, with the title race continuing in the final game of the season.
Newcastle gave a really spirited performance, and gave Liverpool one of their toughest games of the season as Rafael Benitez did his former club no favours at St James’ Park.

Another man with a foot in both camps is ex-striker Mick Quinn, and the Liverpool-born and Liverpool-supporting former Newcastle man took to Twitter to react to the game.
Quinn loved the game as a whole, but was delighted for Liverpool finding enough to gain all three points, before admitting he hopes Benitez signs a new deal with the club after impressing on a limited budget this season.
