Mick Quinn has bashed Liverpool’s latest performance.
Former Liverpool striker Mick Quinn has told talkSPORT that Jurgen Klopp deserves criticism for the Reds’ 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion last night, on the basis of his team selection versus Everton.
Klopp recalled Liverpool’s ‘fab four’ – Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho – after resting the latter two for Everton’s 1-1 draw at Anfield on Sunday.
But the Merseyside outfit failed to break down a resolute West Brom at Anfield again as Liverpool’s famed quartet of danger men struggled to inspire the German’s side to victory.
And Quinn says that the former Dortmund boss “set the tone” for last night’s limp display by not naming his strongest XI against the Toffees in the derby.
He told talkSPORT: “You know what, I’m going to be controversial here: I didn’t touch them [Liverpool] last night on the back of the Merseyside derby performance.
“Resting players for a Merseyside derby set the tone for last night. I know it sounds daft. For me the priority is the derby and you rest the players for West Brom. The derby set the tone for last night and West Brom just shut up shop.”
The Reds are outside the top four on goal difference from Spurs and, really, they should be four points ahead. Klopp threw away those four points in the last two draws, games they could and definitely should have won and Quinn is right, he needs to be accountable.
