West Ham United were linked with a move for Rio Ferdinand as a defensive coach this week.
Micky Quinn has told talkSPORT that the speculation linking Rio Ferdinand to a coaching role with West Ham United was “embarrassing” for Slaven Bilic.
The Mirror reported on Monday that the under-fire West Ham boss rejected the prospect of Ferdinand re-joining the Irons as a defensive coach in an effort to stem the tide of goals being conceded by Bilic’s men.
The Hammers suffered a demoralising 5-1 defeat by Arsenal on Saturday in a result which means they have now shipped 29 Premier League goals in 14 matches.
The 48-year-old manager was previously a defender during his playing career and Quinn feels that the Croat should feel insulted over the speculation.
He told talkSPORT: “I think it’s a bit embarrassing to be honest – not embarrassing for Rio, but Bilic was a defender.
“If it was me I’d have took that as an insult. It’s a slap in the face for Bilic. As a player he was a defender, so if he can’t get it right he is struggling.”
Their goals against column could take yet another battering this weekend as United visit Liverpool, who will be looking to move top of the Premier League.
But after that, they face a cushy run of fixtures over the festive period and failure to pick up a very decent sum of points from those games could well result in Bilic being axed.
