The Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool strikers are linked with moves away.
Mick Quinn has told TalkSport that he believes Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge would favour a move back to London, but does not think that the Reds would replace him with Tottenham Hotspur hitman Harry Kane.
The Mirror reported on Monday that the 27-year-old is keen to quit Liverpool in January after starting just four Premier League games this season, with West Ham United and Swansea City among those reportedly keen on signing the English forward.
He joined the Anfield club from Chelsea in 2013 but so much of his time on Merseyside has been decimated by injury, though a fit Sturridge has often proved a fine asset up front.
But manager Jurgen Klopp does not seem to rate him all that highly for whatever reason, and his long-term future at the club seems to be in doubt at the moment.
There is a similar situation in North London, with The Telegraph reporting that Kane – whose contract expires in 2020 – is refusing to sign an extension with Tottenham unless he is given a £120,000-a-week salary at White Hart Lane.
Spurs are only five points behind Klopp’s side at the top of the Premier League table, and Quinn does not believe that Liverpool is a viable destination for the 23-year-old hitman, who has netted over 60 goals in the past two seasons for the Lilywhites.
Asked whether Liverpool could sign the Spurs man, Quinn told TalkSport: “[They] Could do, but would Spurs sell to a Premier League rival? The thing with Daniel is that Divock Origi is in front of him and Firmino is in front of him.
“It’s up to Daniel whether he wants to stay at Liverpool. I heard he was homesick and wanted to get back to London, and I heard he was a bit of a loner, [but] he’s a top-class striker and still yet to reach his peak.”
