Sunderland are currently in the drop zone alongside Hull City and Swansea City.
Mick Quinn has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 5th January, that Sunderland have an advantage over some of their relegation rivals due to David Moyes.
Swansea City and Hull City, who are the only two sides to sit below Sunderland in the Premier League table, have both swapped managers recently.
Swansea have appointed Paul Clement, while Hull are set to appoint Marco Silva.
Niether Clement nor Silva has any experience of managing in England’s top flight, and Quinn believes that puts Sunderland at an advantage.
“The one thing Sunderland have going for them is that they have an experienced manager,” Quinn said. “We’re talking about Paul Clement, who’s a newbie to the Premier League, Silva is a newbie to Hull. Moyes has the experience to get them out of it.”
Sunderland are currently just one point away from safety, with Crystal Palace occupying the place above the drop zone.
Palace do have an experienced manager in charge, after turning to Sam Allardyce to replace Alan Pardew.
Sunderland’s next league match comes against Stoke City at the Stadium of Light in two weekends’ time.
