The former Magpies striker was not impressed with Shelvey’s behaviour in Friday’s clash with Nottingham Forest.
Former Newcastle United striker Mick Quinn took to Twitter to blast Jonjo Shelvey after the Magpies midfielder was sent off in Friday night’s eventual clash with Nottingham Forest.
In a crazy first half at the City Ground, Shelvey was sent off after he appeared to put his foot in on Forest man Henri Lansbury while both players were on the ground.
Karl Darlow came to the rescue by saving Nicklas Bendtner’s penalty, and after Matt Ritchie had given the visitors the lead, the former Forest goalkeeper saved from the spot again, this time from Lansbury, after Paul Dummett was also shown red.

Bendtner broke Newcastle’s resistance after the break to equalise, and from then on there looked to be only one winner.
So it proved in the dying minutes, as Lansbury’s corner was deflected in off unfortunate ex-Forest man Jamaal Lascelles to condemn Newcastle to a third defeat in a week.
Though the refereeing was questionable throughout the match, it was Shelvey’s reckless act which started off the drama of the night.

That was the third red card in the career of the 24-year-old, who has often been accused of a lack of discipline, and Quinn claimed that the Englishman’s “temper” was threatening to ruin his potential.
Shelvey has often been carded in his still relatively young career, receiving 45 yellow cards as well as his three straight reds.
He is undoubtedly a fine player on his day, and though many Newcastle fans will have been furious at the exaggerated reaction from Lansbury, he needs to stamp out the hot-headed side of his game if he is to reach the heights of which eh is capable.
