Newcastle United are heading for the Premier League as it stands.
Mick Quinn has revealed on talkSPORT that he has been told that Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez will have “a few quid to spend” on players in January.
The Magpies have been very decent since dropping down into the Championship as Benitez’s side sit top of the division with a six-point cushion in the automatic promotion spots.
But they are not quite as immaculate as it seemed just a couple of weeks ago in the wake up of back-to-back defeats by Blackburn and Nottingham Forest.

They lost 2-1 at The City Ground on Friday in spite of the fact they had nine men for precisely half of the match after Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett were sent off.
Quinn, who spent three years at St James’s Park as a player, says the Championship is a “moderate division” in his eyes, but claims he has heard that Benitez will be spending money this winter in an effort to consolidate their promotion hopes.
“I’ve heard he [Benitez] has a few quid to spend in January,” he told talkSPORT.

“I’ve seen enough Championship teams now to think that it is a moderate division. I really do. Even when they [Newcastle] went down to nine men, they still had 58% of the possession.”
There should be money for the former Liverpool manager to spend, should he want to.
Newcastle made over £80 million in the summer following the sales of Moussa Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum and Andros Townsend among others, while he spent a little over £50 million so there should, in theory, be a little left over.
