Ireland are looking to the future with Tottenham star.

Tottenham Hotspur prospect Troy Parrott is on course to get an international call-up for Republic of Ireland.

The 17-year-old striker is highly rated, scoring recently for Ireland’s under-21 side.

He netted four goals this week for Spurs in the UEFA Youth League against Partizan Belgrade.

Ireland manager Mick McCarthy has noted this and hinted Parrott is firmly on his radar ahead of next month’s international fixtures.

McCarthy told the Irish Independent: “We have monitored Troy’s form and progress all season and New Zealand could be the ideal chance to have a look at him at senior international level.

“Troy could be one of the ones to benefit. He scored four goals on Tuesday which will have done him the world of good.”

Parrott’s selection would confirm once and for all that McCarthy has given up on convincing Leeds forward Patrick Bamford to play for Ireland.

McCarthy had been trying to persuade Bamford, but told The Times earlier this year he did not intend on chasing the striker any more.

A call up for Parrott in the last international games of 2019 would underline this, and show he is focused on looking for the future instead.

There’s probably a lot more upside with Parrott too, and his decision will have the backing of Irish fans.
