Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy has told The Irish Independent that it’s time Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford got in touch with him.

England-born Bamford, a £7 million signing by Leeds last summer [Daily Mail], is eligible to represent the Boys in Green.

McCarthy has previously confirmed his interest in getting the 25-year-old to commit his international allegiances to the Irish.

But the former Ipswich Town boss claims that he’s tired of doing ‘all the chasing’ and called on the Whites marksman to get in touch, if he wants to play.

“I have been chasing Patrick now for a long time. He wanted to meet me with his dad and I said fine; I’ll come and see you but then that got kiboshed,” he told The Irish Independent.

“I’ve been doing all the chasing. I think that it’s time – if he wants to play – he picks up the phone and gets hold of me or sends me a WhatsApp.

“He full well knows now that I’ve been doing my damnedest to meet him. And by the way, he is not playing for me, he is playing for Ireland. But I’ve got players who are playing, I’ll go and watch them, see them play.”

Mick McCarthy of Wolves looks on during the Barclays Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa at Molineux on January 21, 2012 in Wolverhampton, England.

McCarthy’s side have two Euro qualifiers with Gibraltar and Georgia in March, but Leeds fans could be forgiven for not wanting Bamford to play in either game.

Kemar Roofe is out for potentially eight weeks, meaning that the goalscoring burden rests on Bamford’s shoulders.

If he were to get injured for United or on international duty then it could possibly be detrimental for Leeds’ hopes of Premier League promotion.

Bamford spearheaded the attack on Tuesday as Marcelo Bielsa’s side missed the chance to go top of the Championship by losing 1-0 at QPR.
