Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott scored twice for Republic of Ireland’s Under-21’s last night.
Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy has told RTE that he is delighted for striker Troy Parrott after his display for the Under-21’s last night.
Parrott was hailed on Friday night after scoring the winner for Ireland’s Under-21’s against Armenia, and many were backing him to be the main threat against Sweden on Tuesday too.
However, the 17-year-old was left on the bench in favour of Celtic’s Jonathan Afolabi, eventually coming off the bench at 1-0 down.
Parrott made a real impact, scoring twice as a substitute in a remarkable turnaround as Ireland won 3-1, with the Tottenham talent once again picking up most of the plaudits.
Senior Ireland boss McCarthy is constantly being asked about calling Parrott up to the first team, and he once again suggested that he’ll watch Parrott and see if he’s right for the team.
McCarthy added that the loves Parrott’s attitude, as he didn’t sulk when left on the bench, instead having a major impact on the game as a substitute.
“We’ll try to get him watched and if I think he is right, I will take him,” said McCarthy. “What I love about Troy Parrott is that when you are left out of the team, that you come on and have an effect, you don’t come on and sulk, so fair play to him, I am delighted for him,” he added.
Tottenham will also love that kind of attitude from Parrott, especially as he will often be on the bench behind Harry Kane for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
It looks like this will be a huge season for club and country for Parrott, and McCarthy’s latest praise shows that not only does he have the talent, but he also has the right mindset to become a star.
