Aston Villa are looking for a new manager after sacking Steve Bruce.

Mick McCarthy has confirmed to Virgin Media Sport in Ireland that he would be keen on the Aston Villa job – but can’t understand why Thierry Henry is a frontrunner.
After weeks of speculation and fan unrest, Villa took the decision to sack manager Steve Bruce on Wednesday, bringing an end to his two-year reign.
Having claimed just one win in nine games and thrown away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home with Preston North End on Tuesday night, Bruce’s departure was inevitable – and new owners Wes Edens and Nassed Sawiris pulled the trigger, meaning they must now find a new manager.
A host of names are already being touted, and Sky Sports reported last night that Mick McCathy is keen on the job having been out of work since leaving Ipswich Town earlier this year.
McCarthy is currently as short as 11/1 for the job, meaning there are plenty of managers ahead of him right now, and it’s unclear whether Villa would want to bring in another defensive manager after the Bruce era.
However, McCarthy has at least confirmed his interest in the post, telling Virgin Media Sport that he would absolutely be interested in taking over such a ‘fabulous’ club, but hasn’t submitted his CV.

McCarthy was then told that Thierry Henry – who has no managerial experience – is one of the frontrunners, and he couldn’t believe it, suggesting that there is ‘no way’ the Frenchman should be ahead of him for the Villa job.
“Absolutely, I would,” said McCarthy. “It’s a fabulous club, of course I would. It’s only just gone so I haven’t had my CV put in, but I would do, it’s a great club.”
“He shouldn’t be a favourite in front of me, let me tell you that; no way. I’m sorry that I’m blowing my own trumpet there,” he added.
