Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has raved about full back Tyrone Mings.
Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has heaped praise on young defender Tyrone Mings during an interview with talkSPORT.
Mings, 22, was initially on the books with Southampton before being released at the age of just 16, and after leaving Bristol Rovers in 2011, he was forced to drop into the lower leagues in order to continue his career.
Spells with Yate Town and Chippenham Town followed, before Ipswich Town took a calculated gamble on Mings, paying just £10,000 to bring him to Portman Road in 2012.
Now a regular in the Ipswich first team as their starting left back, the 6ft 3in defender has been one of the stars of the season for the Tractor Boys.
Mick McCarthy’s men are pushing for a play-off place, and Mings has been a vital part of the setup – which has triggered reported interest from Aston Villa.
According to The Sun, Villa boss Tim Sherwood wants to bring a host of young English players to the club this summer, and Mings is believed to be on his list of transfer targets.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Mings’ manager McCarthy said that there is ‘no doubt’ that Mings is going to be a star in the future – but hopes when he makes the move to the Premier League, it’s with Ipswich Town.
“He’s a great kid and he’s going to be a top player,” he said. “There’s no doubt about it. I just hope he’s going to be a top player with us but he’s certainly going to be a top player.”
