Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi has made a blistering start to life with Borussia Dortmund.
Michy Batshuayi may have found himself as the odd man out at Chelsea, but he has made a stunning start to life with Borussia Dortmund.
The Belgian international hitman never really convinced Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, and with the Blues landing Olivier Giroud from Arsenal to compete with Alvaro Morata, Batshuayi was sent out on loan to Dortmund.
So far, Batshuayi – a 2016 signing from Marseille – has starred in Germany, first notching two goals on his debut as Dortmund beat Koln 3-2, whilst he also grabbed an assist in that game.
Over the weekend, Batshuayi scored again as Dortmund beat Hamburg 2-0, meaning it’s now three goals in two games for the former Standard Liege talent as he continues his remarkable start at Signal Iduna Park.
Batshuayi’s success early on at Dortmund will make the striker believe he made the right decision to snub a move to Tottenham Hotspur close to the transfer deadline, as reported by BBC Sport.
Batshuayi bet on himself to prove that he can be a top striker for a major European club rather than simply going from being a backup to Morata to a backup to Harry Kane at Spurs – and whilst Spurs seemingly keep trying to land Batshuayi, they seem destined never to be.
Firstly, Tottenham were closing in on Batshuayi in 2016 before being gazumped by Chelsea, as reported by The Times, and now the presence of Kane means that he isn’t interested in a move to North London.
That’s somewhat frustrating for Mauricio Pochettino, especially with his long-term target now impressing with Dortmund, but as Valentine’s Day approaches, this appears to be a story of unrequited love.
