Michel Vorm has described Mousa Dembele as one of the “best players” he has ever played with in a heartfelt post on Instagram, after the midfielder left Tottenham Hotspur to join Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F.

Dembele, 31, has been out injured for the last 11 Premier League games due to an ankle injury, with the chances of the 82-time Belgium international earning a new deal deteriorating by the minute.

With the former Fulham star’s contract expiring in the summer, Spurs have opted to offload the powerful midfielder this month by selling him to Chinese side Guangzhou R&F for a fee of £11million.

Vorm, who joined Spurs in 2014 – two years after Dembele had done – posted an emotional message on his Instagram in honour of Dembele’s move to Asia with a series of pictures of both players.

Joining the north Londoners in 2012, Dembele clocked up an enormous 249 appearances in all competitions. He scored just 10 goals in that time from holding midfield, but certainly Dembele was loved by Spurs fans.

The 2019 Chinese Super League season is due to begin on March 1, with the league taking place from March to November – rather than the August to May system in England.

It remains to be seen if Spurs will bring in a replacement for Dembele, with the club failing to sign a single player since bringing in Lucas Moura fro Paris Saint-Germain almost a year ago.
