Tottenham striker Kane has long been linked with a move to Real.
The 24-year-old has guided England to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia with six goals in four appearances at this summer’s tournament – including a brace against Tunisia and a hat-trick against Panama.
Kane failed to find the back of the net against Sweden last time out as England secured a place in the final four through Dele Alli and Harry Maguire. But the England skipper will be the first name on the teamsheet on Wednesday.
Former right-back Salgado told TalkSPORT that Real will be after Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar this summer, and if the club do sign the Brazilian – they will not be able to afford Kane. But he did state that Kane is the no.9 Real need.
“The main target is going to be Neymar for sure,” Salgado said. “After that, I don’t think we will have the money to sign Harry Kane. But he is the kind of no.9 we are looking for.
“We miss a no.9 a little bit at times. He can play behind the striker, he can play in any position because he likes to come deep and get more involved in the game.
“It doesn’t mean that if Kane does come, that [Karim] Benzema will go. Let’s see what happens, but I think the fans would like him [Kane] to come to Real Madrid.”
Tottenham’s number 10 was lethal in front of goal once again under Mauricio Pochettino during the 2017-18 season, scoring 41 goals in just 48 league and cup outings for the north Londoners.
It saw Spurs qualify for the Champions League once again in third, as well as reaching the quarter finals of the competition. But the hoodoo surrounding Spurs remains, as they once again failed to win a trophy.
Kane has signed a new contract at Tottenham, that is set to keep the former Norwich, Millwall and Leyton Orient loanee at Spurs until the summer of 2024.
