Michel Preud’homme’s agent confirms interest in Rangers job and talks have already been held

Glasgow Rangers appear to have already held preliminary talks regarding Pedro Caixinha’s potential successor at Ibrox.

Michel Preud’homme’s agent has told MailSport that the Belgian is keen to take the Rangers job and has already held preliminary talks with the Gers hierarchy about the possibility of succeeding Pedro Caixinha at Ibrox.

Caixinha was dismissed earlier this week in the wake of the Light Blues’ draw with Kilmarnock, with Graeme Murty taking charge of the 3-1 over Hearts at the weekend.

MailSport reports that Preud’homme – who left Club Brugge after four years earlier this year – has been offered a job at Belgian side Mechelen, but his agent Ugi Canturk has confirmed that he would not make a final decision on that offer until Rangers came to a decision regarding who Caixinha’s successor will be.

“We’ve had a nice conversation with Rangers and everything is open,” he told MailSport.

“Michel has been offered a job at Mechelen but that is on hold. We have said that as long as there is no decision yet from Rangers, we don’t want to block ourselves.

“Michel is honoured that Rangers would consider him. Because he sees them as a huge club. They have been down for a few years but in Europe, Rangers are still a big club. So we’ll wait to see what they decide.

“The talks were very open. Michel has made it clear to the club he wants to be considered. He wants the job so if they want him, he will do it.”

Preud’homme undoubtedly has an impressive managerial record, achieving a win rate of at least 50 per cent in his last five jobs which span around 11 years.

But it will be interesting to see whether the Rangers hierarchy want to appoint him given his lack of experience in the Scottish Premiership, especially given how Caixinha’s tenure played out during his short spell at Ibrox.

But it is certainly encouraging for Rangers that someone with an impressive CV like Preud’homme is clearly keen to become the man tasked with clearing the hurdle that neither Mark Warburton or Caixinha could clear.
