Michael Owen critical of Everton defender during 4-0 defeat to Arsenal

Michael Owen slammed Micheal Keane for his questionable defending during Everton’s 4-0 loss to Arsenal on Wednesday night at the Emirates. 

The former England striker stated that Bukayo Saka, who opened the scoring for Mikel Arteta’s men, knew that Keane ‘wasn’t sniffing out any danger’ when he riffled in his goal past Jordan Pickford’s net.

The last time Keane started a game for the Toffees, he conceded five against Arsenal at the Emirates last season.

That was under the stewardship of Frank Lampard, and even though his old Burnley boss Sean Dyche was in the dugout this time, his performance levels still haven’t improved.

All of these are worrying signs for Everton, with Michael Owen being critical of the centre-back, as he told Premier League Productions (01/03/23 at 8:45 pm). 

“Everton held out for a decent amount of time,” said Owen. “But then it was a real bit of quality that broke the deadlock.

“You make a great point, in terms of them switching (Tarkowski and Keane). He has already come out once (Tarkowski to engage with an Arsenal attacker). 

“All of a sudden, Micheal Keane believes that Saka isn’t the problem. We run it on, the ball is halfway there and Keane is still on his front foot – He (Saka) realises that Micheal Keane isn’t sniffing any danger.”

CAN DYCHE KEEP EVERTON UP?

From constant injuries to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, another signing flopping, this time Neal Maupay, who has scored one Premier League goal since his move from Brighton.

The experienced pro, Idrissa Gueye, making yet another defensive mistake, lack of goal threat and problems in defence, Sean Dyche will now be fully aware of the scale of issues at the club.

There is still hope they can survive relegation because they did so last season, the Goodison Park crowd, those back-to-back 1-0 wins recently and the trust fans will have Dyche in himself.

But, once again, it seems as though it’s going to go right to the wire, which will test the heart levels of those Everton fans.
