Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Michail Antonio has been discussing West Ham’s game against Leeds at the weekend and one moment in particular.
Michail Antonio was booked early in the game as he clattered into Robin Koch with a very late challenge.
Some in the stadium and on social media thought that this challenge should have been punished with a red card, but the striker escaped with just a booking.
After the challenge, Stuart Dallas spoke to Antonio, telling him that his challenge was toeing the line of what constitutes a red card offence.
What’s Antonio said?
The striker gave his view on the tackle.
“I’ve gone in for the challenge, it was a 50/50. I caught him. I think it was a yellow because I was a bit late, but I don’t think it was questionable. Dallas came up to me though on the pitch and he said ‘oh, that was a bit naughty.’ And I said ‘That wasn’t naughty, that wouldn’t even get VAR’d.’” Antonio said.

Full-blooded
Whether or not you think Antonio’s challenge was worthy of a red, it has to be said that he was running a risk by going in like that.
Dallas is absolutely right, it was a naughty tackle, and on another he day, he could have been off.
Robin Koch would get his own back on Antonio later in the game with a crunching challenge of his own.
Antonio got away with it this time, but in the age of VAR, he may want to start being a little bit more careful.
