Michail Antonio took to Twitter following West Ham’s FA Cup third round victory over Birmingham on Saturday to comment on the cross that provided Andy Carroll with the chance to secure the win – and the winger’s message was met with a lot of love from the Hammers fans.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men booked their place in the fourth round of the competition thanks to two goals at either end of the game against the Championship side. Marko Arnautovic broke the deadlock inside two minutes, and Carroll doubled the Irons’ lead in stoppage-time.

It was a good performance from West Ham. Birmingham may have been a dark horse for some, with Pellegrini handing out a debut to Samir Nasri and a first start to Xande Silva, while Garry Monk’s side went into the game unbeaten in their last five in the second tier.

And, of course, the Hammers went into the tie off the back of a run of one win in their previous four – having lost two of those fixtures – but they are now back to winning ways.

Antonio’s form has been one of the major positives to emerge from Pellegrini’s tenure so far. The wide-man had previously struggled to rediscover the form that made him so important to the club immediately after he had joined for £7 million (via Sky Sports), but he is now getting back to his best.

And after reacting to the game on social media, several West Ham fans responded by lauding the form that Antonio has shown in recent times, with many concentrating on his cross rather than Carroll’s goal.
