Should George Hirst be given chances for the Sheffield Wednesday first team this season?
Former England international cricketer Michael Vaughan has suggested on social networking site Twitter that George Hirst needs to be part of the Sheffield Wednesday first-team squad.
Hirst is 18 years of age and operates as a forward, but the England Under-20 international has yet to establish himself in the Wednesday first team.
Vaughan, who is a well-known Wednesday fan, has suggested on Twitter that the teenage forward should be made part of the first-team squad soon.
Hirst is a very talented and promising young forward who scores goals for fun at youth level, and the 18-year-old does have a bright future ahead of him.
However, it is probably a bit too early for the youngster to play regularly for Wednesday, and perhaps it would be a good idea for the forward to go out on loan to a League One club for the 2017-18 campaign.
Even playing for the Owls’ youth team and making occasional appearances for the senior side this season would not be a bad idea, given that Hirst is only 18 years of age and still needs to develop.
Interestingly, the forward has been linked with a move away from Wednesday in the summer transfer window.
According to The Daily Mail, Premier League club Leicester City are interested in signing Hirst and saw a bid of £1 million for the youngster turned down last month.
Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle and Everton are also reported to be interested in the Wednesday youngster.
