Glasgow Rangers are without a win from either of the Old Firm games they have played this season.

Michael Stewart has suggested that Rangers’ recent run should allow them to have plenty of confidence going into the Old Firm game at the end of the month, The Scottish Sun reports.

Mark Warburton’s men have enjoyed their best league run since their return to the Scottish Premiership, having won their last three games, including victories over their two nearest rivals for second spot, Aberdeen and Hearts.

That run of form has arguably come at a perfect time for the Gers as following their upcoming games against Inverness and St Johnstone, they face Celtic at Ibrox on New Year’s Eve.

And while the Hoops’ two victories over their bitter rivals this season coupled with their excellent form will surely mean that Brendan Rodgers’ men will probably be favourites for the contest, Stewart believes that a continuation of their winning run will give the Light Blues the belief they need.

“Nine points out of nine since that loss in Edinburgh has put them in a commanding position,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“And with Hearts and Aberdeen still to face each other they have a chance to increase the gap further.

“That could see them going into their Hogmanay clash with Celtic well clear of their nearest rivals.

“And in the form they are in they will fancy their chances against Brendan Rodgers’ side.”

What Rangers have shown over the last few weeks is that they have discovered an ability to secure results even when they are not at their best.

And that should arguably give them a huge amount of confidence that they will be able to keep Celtic at bay, and will perhaps be able to strengthen their current hold on second place by at least claiming a share of the points.
