Former Scottish Premiership midfielder Michael Stewart has suggested to The Scottish Sun that Brendan Rodgers’ recent inclusion of two of Celtic academy starlets in the first-team lineup provides the slightest hint that he is not looking to leave in the near future.

The Hoops have enjoyed a sensational season, having already wrapped up the Scottish Premiership title and moving to within one game of securing the treble.

With the title won, Rodgers has had little hesitation handing the likes of Anthony Ralston and Michael Johnston a chance to shine in the first-team in recent weeks, with the latter making his professional debut in the win over St Johnstone at Parkhead.

And while the work that Rodgers has done may lead some to suggest that he will have surely offers to return to England in the future, Stewart believes that the inclusions of Ralston and Johnston provide an indication of where the Northern Irishman may see his future.

“Rodgers is a top manager and will have ambitions to manage in one of the world’s top leagues,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“But for me that relationship looks a good fit at the moment — both for Celtic and for Rodgers.

“He’s revelling in the way he has his side playing and I thought the introduction of two kids, Michael Johnston and Anthony Ralston, against St Johnstone last week was interesting.

“That suggests he’s out to build a legacy at Celtic — and let’s be honest, who’s going to de-rail it?”

Despite leading the Hoops to domestic dominance this term – they have just three games to negotiate if they hope to go through the entire domestic campaign unbeaten – there is surely plenty more for Rodgers to achieve before he considers it job done at Celtic.

The prospect of winning 10 league titles in a row is one that now seems probable, and Rodgers would surely love to be the man to take them to that landmark, while doing his best to establish the club as something of a force in Europe once again may also be on his radar in the coming years.
