Michael Stewart believes ‘every club needs’ a player like Celtic midfielder Scott Brown

Celtic beat Hibernian in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals over the weekend.

BBC pundit Michael Stewart has waxed-lyrical about Celtic midfielder Scott Brown and stated that ‘every club needs’ a player like him because he brings ‘stability and continuity’ to the job.

The 33-year-old recently helped his side record a 2-0 win over Hibernian in the Scottish Cup to put their name in the hat for the semi-finals.

Brown, who has been on a little goalscoring run in recent weeks, found the back of the net against Hibs after he picked up the ball from outside of the box, made a little run into the penalty area before unleashing a powerful drive into the back of the net.

Speaking to Sportscene on BBC One Scotland (02/03/2019 at 10:55 pm), Stewart praised the priceless influence Brown has on Celtic.

“There is no doubt about it [he is a calming infulence],” Stewart told Sportscene. “You look at the reaction from the crowd they absolutely love him. Every club needs somebody that brings stability and continuity. Whether it is a manager or captain, it’s important.

“I think the calming influence that Scott Brown brings to this Celtic side with his performances. But also the fact that here for such a long, long time has a big impact. I thought the performance was top draw from Scott Brown and he just topped it off with that strike.”

Since Brendan Rodgers departure, Celtic have won back-to-back games, at first they recorded a late winner at Hearts in the Premiership before their win over the weekend.

There is no doubt that Brown’s presence in the dressing room, on the pitch and experience overall has helped. Not forgetting the relationship and understanding he has with Neil Lennon.

Over the course of the season, Brown has played 40 games in all competitions for his side, scoring three goals and supplying one assist to his teammates [transfermarkt].

Celtic will return to league action next Saturday when they face a tough home clash against Aberdeen as they look to extend their eight-point lead at the top of the table.
