Kenny Miller’s contract at Ibrox expires at the end of the season, but Michael Stewart has urged Glasgow Rangers to hand him a new deal.

Michael Stewart has told The Scottish Sun that Rangers would be foolish to allow Kenny Miller to leave at the end of the season, but suggested that he suspects that that is what will probably happen.
The 37-year-old’s contract at Ibrox expires at the end of the season. And while his age may some put off the idea of seeing the striker earn a new deal, his form throughout the campaign has surely been good enough to earn one more year.
Stewart outlined how important the former Scotland international has been to the Gers, but added that he is currently not expecting Pedro Caixinha to give an extension the green light.
“My gut feeling is that Caixinha won’t sanction a new deal for the 37-year-old, but that would be a mistake,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“This Rangers squad does need a major overhaul in the summer but look at how influential Miller has been this season.
“He’s now on 11 goals, which isn’t a massive amount. But four of them have been against Aberdeen and Celtic.
“When it comes to the big occasions, Miller delivers top performances and surely he is the kind of guy any manager would want around his squad.”
Despite his advancing years, and perhaps the fact that many Gers supporters would surely prefer to see a younger option lead the line if possible, Miller’s contribution this season has arguably put the other strikers almost to shame.
Though Martyn Waghorn has scored more in all competitions, Miller’s eight goals makes him Rangers’ leading goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership, while Waghorn and Joe Garner have only scored 11 league goals between them this term.
And while Caixinha cannot rely on Miller in the long-term, there is surely a clear argument to suggest that the veteran still has a role to play for one more season during this period of transition at the club.
