Alan Pardew is one of the latest names to be linked with the Rangers job.

Michael Stewart has told BBC Sport Scotland’s Facebook Live channel that he understands why Alan Pardew’s name has been thrown into the hat to become the next Rangers manager.
Now out of work since Christmas after being handed his marching orders by Premier League side Crystal Palace, Pardew is the latest name to be linked alongside the likes of Derek McInnes, Michel Preud’homme and Alex McLeish.

However, former Scotland international and Hibernian midfielder Stewart sat on the fence when delivering his verdict on the former Newcastle United manager, stating that he has had success as well as “drop offs”.
“We’ve seen that name mentioned,” Stewart said. “He is certainly a manager who has had a colourful past with mixed fortunes.
“He’s been very successful relative to the club where he has been managing, at times, but then there has also been big drop offs with little success as well. I can understand why he is being mentioned as he is out of work at the moment.”

Interim boss Graeme Murty is also in the running to take over at Ibrox and did his chances no harm by masterminding a 3-1 win over Hearts on Saturday, thanks to a brace from Kenny Miller and a late Josh Windass strike.
Murty is likely to still be in charge for the Gers next game against Partick Thistle on Saturday, as the Rangers hierarchy continue to scour the managerial market for Pedro Caixinha’s successor.
