Greg Taylor joined Celtic in a £2.2 million deal on deadline day.
Michael Stewart has suggested on BBC Sportsound that Celtic overpaid for Greg Taylor.
The left-back joined the Hoops from Kilmarnock on deadline day in a £2.2 million deal [The Daily Mail].
Taylor is one of Celtic’s replacements for Kieran Tierney, who joined Arsenal for £25 million last month.
And Stewart believes that Kilmarnock capitalised on the knowledge that Neil Lennon had cash on the hip, suggesting that the Bhoys should’ve done the deal earlier.
He told BBC Sportsound “The Greg Taylor deal is one that falls in to the category of one that should have been done earlier in the window.
“I think he’s a good signing and a sensible signing for Celtic. But once they sold Kieran Tieney for such a vast sum of money then inevitably Kilmarnock were going to say ‘We want a big chunk of money for Greg Taylor.’
“Had Celtic brought in Taylor earlier in the window they could have got him for less.”
The thing Stewart is forgetting is that Taylor has only been on Celtic’s radar for a matter of weeks. The Record cited their interest on August 7, a day before Tierney left.
Lennon signed Boli Bolingoli as Tierney’s immediate replacement, prior to the Scot leaving Parkhead, and might not have gone for Taylor had the Belgian not endured an inauspicious start to life in Glasgow.
