Michael Stewart critical of Alfredo Morelos’ behaviour during Rangers draw at Aberdeen

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been a key player for Steven Gerrard this season.

BBC Sport pundit Michael Stewart was left unimpressed with Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos because of his behaviour during his side’s 1-1 draw at Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.

Former Premiership player Stewart was referring to the opposition players defending ‘really well’ against him and a ‘frustration really building up’ inside the Gers star man.

The 22-year-year old, who played the full match at Pittodrie, failed to get on the scoresheet and was once again involved in a number of off-ball incidents.

Speaking to Sportscene on BBC Sport Scotland (03/03/2019 at 11:55 pm), Stewart shared his thoughts on the number of incidents Morelos was involved in against Aberdeen.

“It’s theatrical [on the dive],” Stewart told Sportscene. “This is right before half time and he just has a wee petulant kick out here [on Considine]. He just can’t help himself.

“I know there is not a great deal in the kick, but it’s just another one of those off-the-ball incidents where I was saying there had been quite a few incidents where the guys had been coming together. Considine, McKenna and Morelos.

“I think the guys defended really well against him, you can tell there was that frustration building up and he has that petulant kick. There’s something in his game that he clearly can’t get out.”

In the game itself, Sam Cosgrove converted from the penalty spot early on when Connor Goldson fouled Gary Mackay-Steven, but the away team replied within four minutes of the restart through Joe Worrall.

On the previous occasions Morelos has come up against the Dons, he has found himself having an early shower because he has been sent off on each occasion against them this term.

However, that wasn’t the case here but he was still shown a yellow card and he will be hoping to book his side’s place in the semi-final if they can win the reply.

The winner of that tie will come up against Neil Lennon’s Celtic, who are still on course to clinch a treble-treble with the Bhoys who are well in control of the Scottish Premiership title race.
