Glasgow Rangers right-back James Tavernier did not play well for Steven Gerrard’s side in the Europa League on Thursday.

The former Manchester United midfielder, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport, has stated when Tavernier first arrived at Rangers, he was defensively a “liability’.
Stewart believes that although the 27-year-old right-back has improved defensively, he does lapse, as he did against Young Boys in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
Stewart wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Tavernier was a liability defensively when he first arrived at the club in the summer of 2015. But, to his credit, he has worked on that side of his game no end since Gerrard’s arrival at the club.
“And, by and large, he has managed to cut out the glaring mistakes that marked his first few seasons. Now, maybe that’s because his team-mates protect him more now so he isn’t as isolated.
“His positional sense is certainly better, as are his concentration levels. But every so often Tavernier reverts to the player he was, as he did against Young Boys on Thursday.”
Quality player
Tavernier is one of the best right-backs in the Scottish Premiership, and there is no doubt that he is a key figure at Rangers.
True, the right-back does make mistakes at the back and was disappointing defensively against Young Boys in the Europa League, but all players make mistakes.
What is important is that the former Newcastle United right-back bounces back strongly and recovers from his mistakes quickly.
Rangers are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership table this season, as well as progress to the knockout rounds of the Europa League.
