Michael Stewart comments on Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon

Neil Lennon’s Celtic have signed Fraser Forster on loan from Southampton.

Michael Stewart has suggested in The Scottish Sun that Craig Gordon will be disappointed at Celtic signing Fraser Forster from Southampton.

Celtic have signed Forster on loan from Premier League club Southampton in the summer transfer window.

The 31-year-old England international goalkeeper played for the Hoops on loan from Newcastle United in 2010-11 and 2011-12 and then signed a permanent contract in 2012.

Gordon has been on the books of Celtic since 2014 and is out of contract at the Glasgow giants next summer.

Scott Bain is injured at the moment, but when the Scotsman is back fit and available, Gordon will be third-choice goalkeeper at the Glasgow giants.

Former Manchester United and Hibernian midfielder Stewart, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport, believes that Gordon will be disappointed that Celtic manager Neil Lennon has decided to bring in Forster.

Meanwhile, former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes that Forster is better than both Gordon and Bain, and has said that he felt sorry for the 31-year-old when he was dropped at Southampton.

Stewart wrote about Gordon in The Scottish Sun: “The return of the England goalkeeper on a season-long loan is a shrewd piece of business by Neil Lennon.

“But it’s also a punch in the gut to someone who has never let the Hoops down during his time at Parkhead.”

Sutton said about Forster on BT Sport: “I actually felt for him when they dropped him. I didn’t think his form was all that bad.

“They had McCarthy and Angus Gunn, two good goalkeepers there. I think Fraser at his age would want to play, and he is better than what Celtic have got.”
