Michael Porter Jr. drawing trade interest ahead of deadline

Michael Porter Jr. might find himself on a new team soon, with the trade deadline fast approaching.

The Brooklyn Nets have stumbled out of the gates this season, sitting at 10-20 and clearly in the early stages of a rebuild.

Amid a difficult campaign, Porter Jr. has emerged as one of the bright spots, contributing significantly whenever Brooklyn has managed to pick up wins.

Porter is putting together a career year on an otherwise struggling Nets side, averaging 25.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting an impressive 41 percent from beyond the arc.

As good as Porter Jr. has been, he’s not a great fit for a Nets team that’s looking to reset ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft.

At 27, he’d likely be better off with a title contender, where his skills could make more of an impact.

And according to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Detroit is a team worth keeping an eye on in the Porter Jr. sweepstakes.

“Another team to monitor when it comes to Porter, league sources say, is Detroit.”

Why Michael Porter Jr. could be a strong addition to the Pistons

The Pistons have been one of the early surprises this season, sitting top of the East with a 25-8 record.

Cade Cunningham has been playing at an MVP level, and Jalen Duren continues to develop into one of the league’s more promising young centres.

If Detroit decides they need another option with experience, Porter Jr. could fit that role nicely.

He brings championship experience and has shown he can be effective without needing to dominate the ball. His time in Denver highlighted his value as a reliable spot-up shooter.

Should the Pistons decide this is the year to make a serious run, adding Porter Jr. might be a move that fits their timeline and needs.
