Michael Owen has said on PremierLeague.com that the penalty that Manchester United were awarded in the first half against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in the Premier League game on Saturday was the right call.
Manchester United took on Crystal Palace at home in the league today.
Portuguese attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes put Erik ten Hag’s side in the lead from the penalty spot after just seven minutes.
English forward Marcus Rashford made it 2-0 to the Red Devils on 62 minutes.
Brazilian defensive midfielder Casemiro was sent off in the 70th minute.
Jeffrey Schlupp found the back of the net for the Eagles on 76 minutes.
United won the match 2-1 in the end.
The penalty decision that went in favour of United against Palace was controversial.
Rashford clipped the ball in from the left and it hit Will Hughes’s arm, which was in the air.

After a recommendation by VAR Tony Harrington, Andre Marriner visitied the Referee Review Area and gave a penalty.
Fernandes made no mistake from the spot.
It was a controversial decision, but it went in favour of the home team.
And, as you can see below, former United striker Owen believes that it was the right decision.

Owen said about the penalty decision: “I think most people will come to the conclusion that it’s a penalty. The arm lifts up and when you look at it slowly it’s an unnatural position.”
