Manchester United will not renew terms with the striker.
Michael Owen has confirmed on Twitter that he will not be a Manchester United player next season.
He tweeted: “The manager informed me after our testimonial match on Tuesday that the club would not be offering me a new contract. I now plan to have a new holiday during which I will contemplate my next move.”
Owen has barely played this season for United, missing nearly all of 2012 with injury.
He will be fondly remembered for his winner in the 4-3 derby win over Manchester City, a Champions League hat-trick against Wolfsburg and a Carling Cup Final goal, all in his debut season.
United will now be expected to sign a new striker, with Dimitar Berbatov expected to leave too.
Meanwhile Owen’s departure will free up United’s number seven shirt, also increasing speculation about potential new arrivals.
