Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Naby Keita, while they have already signed Mohamed Salah.
Michael Owen has told the Daily Mirror that Liverpool landing Naby Keita from RB Leipzig would be an amazing deal for the Reds, while he also praised the club’s decision to sign Mohamed Salah this summer.
Jurgen Klopp has been fairly quiet during this window, with Salah and Dominic Solanke being the only two additions to the senior squad so far. However, it is clear that Liverpool are working hard on making a third signing.
RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita
Klopp has told the Daily Mirror that he will continue to pursue Leipzig midfielder Keita until the end of the transfer window if necessary after they saw an eye-watering £57 million bid rejected by the Bundesliga outfit.
And Owen hinted that he believes his old side are closing in on the 22-year-old, before adding his opinion on whether that would be a good piece of business for the club.
“They are on the cusp of signing [Naby] Keita, and that could be an amazing signing if that came off,” he told the Mirror.
Until any potential Keita move takes place, the £34.3 million acquisition of Salah remains their record deal, the Mirror reports. And despite the Egyptian struggling with Chelsea during his previous spell in the Premier League, Owen is confident that Salah will prove any doubters wrong during his time at Anfield.
“I think Salah is a really good signing, he didn’t quite nail it at Chelsea, but he was young at the time,” he added.
“He’s gone away, he had a good time at Roma, he’s got outstanding pace and if you’re an attacking player with loads of pace then you’re valuable.
Though Keita’s arrival – if it does happen – would provide the defence with greater support, Reds fans will perhaps be hoping that once a resolution is reached in that pursuit, Klopp switches his attention to their options at the back – as that is arguably looking to be their weakest area on paper.
