Michael Owen has made a bold claim about Europa League runners-up Liverpool.
Speaking to BT Sport, former England international Michael Owen has stated that Liverpool remain one of the most attractive destinations for top players – behind only Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Liverpool suffered an extremely disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Sevilla in the final of the Europa League at Basel on Wednesday night and the result means that the Reds will miss out on Europe altogether next season.
A lack of European football could mean that Liverpool could struggle to attract the caliber of players they would want in order to mount a serious challenge for a top four finish in the Premier League next season and manager Jurgen Klopp may perhaps have to be slightly less ambitious regarding his transfer targets this summer.
However, former Liverpool striker Michael Owen certainly does not agree with such a belief and has gone on to make a bold statement regarding the Reds.
Speaking to BT Sport, Owen stated that after Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, Liverpool remain the top destination for most players and insisted that the Premier League side will not struggle to land their main transfer targets in the summer.
He said: “When you look at it in the cold light of day, who are bigger and better than Liverpool, who can you go to. Barcelona and Real Madrid could attract anyone, I suppose, but after that, where else is there to go? I cannot imagine there is anywhere else in the Premier League.”
