Michael Owen has claimed that Alisson Becker has been ‘one of the stars of the show’ for Liverpool this season, as he told Premier League Productions.
For large parts of Sunday, Liverpool fans felt that the Premier League title could be headed in their direction.
When Philippe Coutinho put Villa 2-0 ahead at Manchester City, many would have been left shell-shocked, overjoyed and utterly amazed.
But, before Man City could stage a quite stunning comeback, Alisson was working his magic in between the sticks against Wolves.
At the time of Owen’s analysis, he praised Alisson for his one v one save during the game, before stating that he has been a standout in the Premier League.
“How big a save could this be (saving Hwang’s one v one effort in the first half),” said Owen. “This was a brilliant save. It was similar to the chance at the other end when Sadio Mane came in and scored.
“Alisson, he has been one of the stars of the show. The stars of the Premier League this season.”
The Reds knew that fate was in other teams’ hands, and whilst Villa fought hard against Man City, it just wasn’t meant to be.
But, this relentless Liverpool machine has to keep going because they have the small matter of the Champions League final to deal with next week.
With the attack Carlo Ancelotti can unleash on the Reds, it’s going to make the work of Alisson even more important in Paris.
The Brazil international has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season and now he has to produce the goods for one last time against Real Madrid.
