Liverpool kicked off their title defence with a 4-3 home win over Leeds United on Saturday evening, in what was a ridiculous game of football.
The Reds took an early lead through Mohamed Salah’s penalty, and will have hope to really kick on from there and beat the newly-promoted Whites comfortably.
However, Leeds hit back through a superb Jack Harrison goal, and when Virgil van Dijk restored Liverpool’s lead, he then gifted Patrick Bamford an equaliser.
Salah fired Liverpool back in front, but Mateusz Klich’s volley seemed to have given Leeds a deserved share of the spoils.
Rodrigo’s rash challenge on Fabinho handed Liverpool a late penalty though, and Salah stepped up to complete his hat-trick and give the Reds a 4-3 win.
Liverpool were far from convincing defensively, and that may be something that Jurgen Klopp looks to solve in the coming weeks.
They did though play their part in a stunning game, which has been praised by many fans and pundits as the Premier League season kicked off in style.
Ex-Reds striker Michael Owen took to Twitter to offer his view, claiming that the game was ‘absolutely brilliant’ and he was ‘so impressed’ with Leeds.
Stephen Warnock – who played for both sides – added that Leeds impressed him too, and Liverpool will need to get better defensively.
