Michael Owen has stated that Leeds should have taken their chance after missing out on signing Conor Gallagher from Chelsea this summer, as he told Amazon Prime.
The former striker stated that Gallagher, who is on-loan at Crystal Palace, has ‘staggering energy levels’.
It could have been different for the player in the summer because, whilst Chelsea were willing to let him go once again on a temporary basis, it seemed as though there was a bit of a summer tussle between Palace and Leeds for his signature.
In the end, Gallagher stayed put in London and he is now thriving under the stewardship of Patrick Vieira at Selhurst Park.
It also resulted in him earning his first England call last month and he will be hoping there are many more to come.
Owen reacted to Leeds missing out on signing the attack-minded midfielder and how Chelsea will make him part of their squad next season.
“The energy levels are quite staggering,” said Owen. “He’s then got his call up for the England national team, which is thoroughly deserved. He has been playing brilliantly at club level.
On Leeds missing out on him: “Sometimes you have to take a chance, don’t you? And put the money down then. You never know a big offer might have swayed them, but now his value would have doubled or trebled.
“And now Chelsea will be thinking of having him in their squad before letting him go.”

Gallagher would have suited Marcelo Bielsa’s system down to the bone and complimented someone like Kalvin Phillips in the middle of the park.
The aggression in which Gallagher presses with the ball is what Bielsa demands and then it’s his attacking runs when his team have possession.
Added with that, he has the forward-thinking qualities to drive the team forward and the ball-carrying ability to break lines.
Leeds fans may not see him link up with Phillips on the domestic stage, but instead, they will probably get to see more of it on the international scene.
