Liverpool beat Bayern Munich 3-0 at the Allianz Arena this evening.
Liverpool’s pre-season preparations received a major boost this evening, as they hammered Bayern Munich 3-0 at the Allianz Arena in the Audi Cup.
The Reds have been enjoying a strong pre-season already, but tonight’s victory over the German champions will create a major buzz on Merseyside ahead of the new Premier League season.
Liverpool’s Sadio Mane (L) and his teammate Mohamed Salah (R) celebrate
Tonight’s encounter was the first time Liverpool fans have been able to see Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah in action together, and the quarter struck fear into the Bayern defence.
Mane opened the scoring in the first half, latching on to Roberto Firmino’s pass to smash the ball beyond Sven Ulreich, before Mohamed Salah headed home from close range after Ulreich had parried Alberto Moreno’s effort.
Daniel Sturridge then rounded off the victory in the second half, chipping goalkeeper Ulreich after Marko Grujic’s effort had been ruled out for offside.
Whilst it wasn’t all good news for Liverpool as Sturridge later suffered an injury, this was a superb performance against one of the giants of European football, and fans will certainly be excited about the pace on show from Mane and Salah in attack.
Michael Owen
After the game, former Reds striker Michael Owen took to Twitter to offer his reaction to the display, admitting it was another impressive showing in what has been a superb pre-season to date.
Ex-Bayern and Liverpool ace Dietmar Hamann also reacted to the performance, noting that they were excellent, but also that pre-season friendlies are ultimately meaningless.
