Arsenal smashed their club record yesterday to sign Alexandre Lacazette.
In a long over due transfer, Arsenal have completed a deal to sign Alexandre Lacazette.
The Gunners paid a £52 million fee to sign the France international striker from Lyon, eclipsing the £42 million they paid to Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil in 2013.
New signing… Alexandre Lacazette
Considering Arsenal are not in the Champions League next season, Lacazette’s capture is mightily impressive, and Michael Owen appears to be a fan.
Owen has made clear previously that he is not so enamoured with Ozil, but he is a big fan of the Frenchman, dubbing him a ‘goal machine’.
Lacazette has a prolific record, scoring 37 goals in all competitions last season.
The big mistake Arsenal made was not signing him sooner. If they had done, they likely would have finished inside the top four last season.
It shouldn’t have taken finishing outside the Champions League places to press Arsene Wenger into spending big on a striker, but it is better late than never.
