Former Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has predicted on Betvictor.com that Southampton will win against Sunderland this weekend.

Southampton will take on Sunderland at home in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Owen has backed the Saints to pick up all three points from the encounter at St. Mary’s Stadium.

The former Manchester United and Liverpool striker has also made an observation about Sunderland manager David Moyes.

The Englishman has noted that only Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp have more Premier League points than the former Everton boss.

“This is the seventh successive season that Sunderland have failed to win one of their first two fixtures in the PL season and I can’t see them getting anything on the south coast,” Owen wrote on Betvictor.com.

“David Moyes would have been well aware of the task at hand before he took the post at the Stadium Of Light and I think he will have to wait at least another couple of weeks before he picks up his 700th point as a PL manager.

“It should be noted that only Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp have more.”

A footnote added: “Michael’s recommendation: Saints to win and both teams to score at 14/5.”

Southampton will head into the game against Sunderland on the back of a 2-0 defeat to United away from home at Old Trafford in the league.

The Saints kicked off their 2016-17 Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw with Watford at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Sunderland won against Shrewsbury Town at the Stadium of Light in the second round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Black Cats have lost both of their Premier League games so far this season and appear to be in trouble already.
