Michael Owen praised Patrick Bamford for his ‘lovely’ edge-of-the-box finish that helped Javi Gracia’s Leeds United secure a 2-2 draw against Brighton at Elland Road on Saturday.

Leeds had to come from behind on two occasions to secure a much-needed point in their quest to survive relegation, including Bamford’s thunderous effort that kissed the crossbar as it hit the net.

The 29-year-old was slightly fortunate that his shot took a deflection on its way into the back of the net, but it was luck that was deserved given how he put himself into a position to take the shot.

From then on, it was the Jack Harrison show because, after his own goal, he then proceeded to curl Leeds’ second goal of the afternoon into the top corner to make amends.

Either way, that goal threat and quality in the final third was back from Leeds, it’s now a case of maintaining it during these coming weeks.

Nonetheless, this was what former England striker Michael Owen made of Bamford’s goal from the weekend, as he told Premier League Productions (11/03/23 at 3:55 pm).

“Bamford takes it lovely on his back foot,” said Owen. “He takes it away. He almost takes the defender out of the game and then it is a bit fortunate with the deflection. But it was a lovely strike.”

BAMFORD’S KEY TO LEEDS’ SURVIVAL

The Englishman divides opinion with the Leeds supporters, but if they want to survive this season, then he will be key during these coming months.

Bamford’s biggest issue from last season has been his inability to stay out of the treatment room.

Well, if he can do that, then Leeds, along with the return of Rodrigo, will have much more of a goal threat and a chance of staying in the Premier League.
