Hull City and Sunderland are currently in the bottom three.

Michael Owen has told BT Sport that Sunderland and Hull City are looking like certainties to get relegated this season.

The Black Cats have endured a disastrous start to the campaign, going nine games without a win under new manager David Moyes.

Their poor form continued on Saturday afternoon as they were beaten 1-0 by West Ham United courtesy of a last-minute winner from Winston Reid.

Hull meanwhile started the season brightly but have since slid down the table to currently find themselves in 18th place.

The Tigers have lost their last five games in a row, conceding 19 goals in the process, and Owen has backed them to go down.

“Sunderland and Hull are the favourites [with the bookies] and if you pinned me down I would say those two are looking like certainties for relegation,” he told BT Sport.

At this moment in time, the situation is certainly looking brighter for Hull than it does for Sunderland.

The Black Cats have only picked up two points all season and are already five points from safety, even at this early stage of the campaign.

The Tigers have not fared quite as badly and have seven points, level with Middlesbrough in 17th and just a win away from the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Burnley and West Ham in 13th, 14th and 15th respectively.
