Michael Owen has told BT Sport that Tottenham star Son Heung-min is the one player he would sign from Spurs, if he was given the chance to sign any of Antonio Conte’s players – after his brace against German side Eintracht Frankfurt.
Son, 30, took his tally to five goals for the 2022-23 campaign after his hat-trick against Leicester. Firstly, equalising after Frankfurt opened the scoring – when one on one after a neat pass from Harry Kane. Kane made it 2-1 from 12 yards.
The England skipper went on a mazy run and was bundled over in the penalty area. He beat Kevin Trapp, before Son made it 3-1 in the second half with a superb left-footed volley. Frankfurt went down to 10 men. But still, they pushed.
Indeed, Frankfurt made it 3-2 and pushed for a late third – but it was not to be. Asked about Son on Champions League Tonight, Owen said he has always been a fan and said he would take him over any Spurs player, including Kane.
“He’s one of the best. If you’re any huge club and you’re looking at Spurs, I’d take Son ahead of any of them,” Owen told BT Sport, following the full-time whistle on Wednesday’s eight Champions League group games.
Son is the one player Owen would sign from Spurs, not Kane
It is an interesting one. Kane is a year younger than Son, and obviously, has a much-better ratio in terms of goals. But in regards to everything else, Son is quicker, arguably harder-working, and more versatile; he can play on either wing.
It is almost possible to pick between the two. Ultimately, it depends who Owen is buying for. It if it is his beloved Liverpool, then signing Son makes more sense after the Reds brought in Darwin Nunez. Chelsea, would prefer Kane.
