Michael Owen believes Liverpool’s hopes of finishing in the Premier League top four hinge on their next five games. But if they do not lose ground, he is ‘convinced’ they will make it.
The Anfield natives currently sit sixth in the table through 24 matches after a disappointing season. Jurgen Klopp has only overseen 11 wins with six draws to seven defeats. The Reds have also scored 40 goals and conceded 28 with Mohamed Salah their top scorer with nine.
Liverpool had 54 points through 24 games last term to their 39 so far this season. They had also won 16 and drawn six times to just two defeats with 61 goals scored and 19 conceded. Their efforts were enough to rank second in the table and have a seven-point lead to third.

But the Merseyside outfit’s record so far this season is only good enough to sit in sixth with a six-point deficit to the Champions League qualifying spots. Liverpool hold a game in hand over Tottenham Hotspur in fourth. But Newcastle United in fifth hold two matches in hand.
The Toon also sit two points better off through 23 games than the Reds through 24. While Brighton & Hove Albion in eighth place have only played 22 matches so far this season. The Seagulls are just four points behind Klopp’s squad despite playing two fewer times, as well.

Owen puts Liverpool’s Premier League top-four hopes down to their next five games
Owen is ‘convinced’ Liverpool will finish in the top four of the Premier League table if they do not lose any more ground over their next five fixtures. Manchester United visit Anfield on Sunday before the Reds visit Bournemouth, Manchester City, Chelsea and host Arsenal.
“If they’re no further away from the top four after that run of fixtures, then they’ll do it,” Owen has now told Premier League Productions. “I’m convinced of it.”
Liverpool lost 2-1 at Manchester United earlier in the season before beating Bournemouth 9-0 in their next match. The Reds also beat Manchester City 1-0 in their next match after a 3-2 defeat at Arsenal. Klopp’s squad drew 0-0 with Chelsea when the Blues’ visited Anfield.
