Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen has predicted on Betvictor.com that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will open the scoring for England this evening.

England will take on Malta away from home in World Cup qualifying European Group F in a few hours’ time.

Owen has backed Tottenham striker Kane to open the scoring for the Three Lions, as well as topscore for Gareth Southgate’s team in the World Cup qualifying campaign.

Harry Kane of Tottenham celebrates scoring to make it 1-0 during the pre-season match between Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus at Wembley Stadium on August 5, 2017 in London, England.

“England are a 13/10 chance on the handicap against Malta on Friday, and I think they should beat the minnows by four or more goals accordingly,” Owen wrote on Betvictor.com.

“As mentioned, Harry Kane looks an automatic starter at the pinnacle of England’s attack and he seems a fair price at 9/4 to open the scoring.”

“Kane is the 5/4 favourite to be England’s leading goalscorer in qualifying for next year’s World Cup and I think he represents terrific value,” added Owen.

England are at the top of World Cup qualifying European Group F with 14 points from six matches, just two points above second-placed Slovakia.

Kane has actually scored just one goal in the qualifying campaign so far, one fewer than Liverpool duo and England teammates Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge.

However, the 24-year-old Spurs star, who is one of the best strikers in the Premier League, needs just two more goals in order to become the joint topscorer in the Group, and one should not be surprised if he gets a hat-trick against Malta this evening.
