Both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are in Champions League action before they lock horns with one another in the Premier League at the weekend.
Michael Owen has stated that Liverpool have been ‘pretty average’ this season but have still managed to pick up points as he thinks that this is a ‘decent’ time for them to play Tottenham ahead of Sunday’s showdown.
The former striker also labelled Tottenham’s away form as ‘appalling’, and praised Liverpool for being able to pick up results despite not being at their absolute best.
Before both teams lock horns in the Premier League on Sunday, they will be in Champions League action on Tuesday and Wednesday night, respectively.
But Owen thinks that this is the best time for Liverpool to face Mauricio Pochettino’s side because of the form they have been in since the start of the campaign.
“Probably a decent enough time to play Tottenham,” said Owen as posted by Football Report. “Their away record at the moment is appalling.
“Liverpool themselves aren’t in top form. I know this record is quite frightening, at the moment with how good they have been. It’s a very good side. But against Sheffield United, they were pretty average. Against Manchester United, they were pretty average. It is still a cracking sign when you are still picking up results. Going at home to play Tottenham, it’s a good time to play Spurs, at the minute.”
Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping his team can add some confidence into their game before they take on the current Premier League leaders.
Spurs host Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League tonight, with Jurgen Klopp’s men making the trip to Belgium to take on Genk.
More than likely Liverpool will walk away with a positive result, but given how Spurs have been playing this season, it’s up for grabs in regards to what they will produce.
