Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen has dismissed Arsenal’s table topping form.
Michael Owen upset Arsenal fans in late September when he said they ‘did not look like a top four team’ to him, despite their emergence challenging at the top of the Premier League table.
On Saturday afternoon courtesy of a 3-0 win over Cardiff City, where Manchester United drew 2-2 six days earlier, the Gunners went seven points clear at the top, with Liverpool and Chelsea playing a day later.
But still the former England international striker said he was not adjusting his assertion that the Gunners do not look like a top four team.
To which Arsenal fan Piers Morgan pointed out his comment about the Gunners not looking like a top four team came over a month into the season, and Owen responded stating he stands by his prediction:
Owen slightly backtracked, going onto say the best Arsenal can hope for is third. Clearly he still believes they will be unsuccessful in this.
Owen is keen to forge a career in punditry, but by continuing to write off this year’s table-toppers, all he may do is ensure his name goes down in infamy alongside Alan Hansen’s comments on the United double winning side of 1995/96.
