Liverpool currently have an incredibly dangerous strike force.
Michael Owen sat down for an exclusive interview with Goal, and highlighted a big problem that Liverpool will face in the summer, if they want to sign a top quality forward.
The Reds currently have one of the most dangerous front-lines in world football, but it could be argued that Jürgen Klopp needs to add more competition for places to his attacking options.
Liverpool are second in the Premier League table at the moment, level on points with Manchester City, but they do have a game in hand over Pep Guardiola’s side.
If they are to make genuine progress over the next few years, Klopp will undoubtedly have to spend heavily during the summer, but Owen, who scored 158 goals for Liverpool, told Goal how that will be far easier said than done:
“How do you go and target someone, and they say ‘am I going to start?’ and you have to say ‘no, Salah will start or Mane will start’? You can’t go and get an absolute top player, unless they only have a couple of years left in their career. To go and get someone in the guts of their career, at 24 or 25, that’s so hard, and that’s the only player that can really improve teams like this one.”
Liverpool are currently away on a warm weather training camp in Marbella, and they are next in action on Tuesday night against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, before they travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United five days later.
