Michael Owen has hailed Enzo Fernandez as someone who just ‘oozes class’ after Chelsea’s goalless draw against Liverpool on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool went into the game on the back of being smashed 4-1 at Manchester City and Michael Owen added that Jurgen Klopp’s side ‘didn’t play bad at all’.

This was Chelsea’s first game since the sacking of Graham Potter, with the same old issues arising in front of goal, but the January capture of Enzo Fernandez was a big plus, as he was awarded the Man of the Match.

The 22-year-old’s engine didn’t stop in the middle of the park, even if the West London club don’t have a proper driver to operate them.

If Liverpool thought their issues were bad sitting eighth in the Premier League table, well, 11th-placed Chelsea will say something different.

When trying to take some positives out of yesterday’s drab draw at the Bridge, Michael Owen hailed Chelsea’s man in the middle and tried to remain positive about his former side, as he told Premier League Productions (04/04/23 at 9:55 pm).

“In Enzo Fernandez, I think they have got a seriously good player,” said Owen. “I know he cost an awful lot of money and I know people will be saying that ‘you should be good for that type of money’. But I think he is seriously good. I think he absolutely oozes class.

On Liverpool’s performance: “I think Liverpool didn’t play bad, at all. It’s just the standard of what we have seen of Liverpool over the last half dozen years has been quite staggering. You are always using that as a barometer.

“But they played fine. Yes, they conceded a couple of chances and Chelsea will be disappointed that they didn’t score.

“They also created a couple of chances themselves. A few fresh faces came in and they have rested a couple of their star players that might be back for the big game against Arsenal at the weekend, so there are positives to take.”

CHELSEA AND LIVERPOOL NEED THE SEASON TO END

Both clubs were hoping to write different stories at the start of the campaign, but given what they have produced, not even their enemies would have written such fodder.

Whilst Liverpool will be massively worried that they are now going to miss out on Champions League football for next season, those in the capital might be able to save themselves.

Chelsea can still win the Champions League and there are suggestions that the club are looking at recently-sacked Bayern Munich boss, Julian Nagelsmann, as a possible replacement for Potter.
